1. TAKE LIFE DRAWING CLASSES.
I can't stress this enough. very few people become successful artists (especially for comics/manga) unless they have a firm, grounded basis in realistic human anatomy.
2. HAVE REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS If you think you are going to Japan to be a famous manga artists, or work in anime, (in japan, you CAN get a job if you're in Canada and the US, but it's very competitive, and you'll need a hell of a reference and resume, and probably some college) you are a very, very deluded, naive person.
